Screening Process
Classroom teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, or community members may request a student be screened for gifted services. If there is evidence suggesting potential giftedness, the referral process should begin.
Referral Proces
In the referral process, data is collected for the Gifted Education Team (GET) to review and determine if gifted identification is warranted. Data from six areas are collected: aptitude, achievement, observation of gifted characteristics, motivation to learn, learning interests, and performance. Additional aptitude or achievement testing may be requested if the all other indicators demonstrate potential giftedness.
Indentification
Each school in our district has a Gifted Education Team (GET) which is responsible for identifying gifted students and matching gifted services to student needs. Students in grades K-12 may be identified as gifted.
Parents will be notified of placement and invited to attend an initial meeting to discuss identification and services to be provided. Parents may also provide input in the development of a Differentiated Education Plan (DEP) for their child. DEPs will be reviewed each year by the GET team to assure the best placement for the child in the next school year. The plan must be signed by a parent each year when it is reviewed.
